I feel like South Louisiana—with its mix of Caribbean, Creole, and Cajun cultures…along with a pinch of everything else—is out there just speaking its own musical language and every now and then the rest of the country takes notice, and that’s how we got ragtime…and jazz…and rock & roll…and little gems like Cajun fiddler extraordinaire Michael Doucet’s 2008 stripped-down acoustic (and indisputably funky) cover of Allen Toussaint’s classic gem, “Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky (From Now On)”.
