Morning Song – Keep That Funk Alive

As drummer Adam Deitch of Boston-based funksters Lettuce (from their Berklee College days of begging club managers, “Will you let us play a set?“) recalls from the early days of the pandemic, “We’re off tour, we’re depressed, we’re making no money,” and the legendary Bootsy Collins—who has somehow emerged in recent years as the Yoda of Funk—raised their spirits by posting upbeat messages like “hang tight, be cool, and keep that funk alive” on his Instagram account.

So they did. Here’s the first single off their new album, marinated in P-Funk sauce, with Bootsy guesting.

“Keep that funk alive. (I can’t hear you, baby.)”
