Morning Song – Plenty Good Lovin’

April 16, 2024

There’s not justice in this world, but there’s some justice.

Take Sam Moore’s “Plenty Good Lovin'”, for example. It was to be the title track for his 1971 debut solo album after breaking up with longtime partner, Dave Prater.

And what an album! Produced by King Curtis, Aretha and Donny Hathaway on keyboards, Chuck Rainey on bass, Cornell Dupree on guitar, Bernard Purdie on drums, The Sweet Inspirations on backing vocals—basically the royalty of soul music coming together to launch one of their own on his solo career.

Then Curtis got killed, Moore and Prater reunited, and the whole project got lost in the Atlantic Records vaults for 30 years, before finally being released in 2002.

Not justice…but some justice.
