Morning Song – I’m Willing To Run

July 9, 2017

As the story goes, when Sam Cooke joined the Soul Stirrers, the other guys in the group were worried that he wouldn’t be good enough to replace their outgoing lead tenor.

Sam Cooke!

Of course, their outgoing lead tenor was the great R. H. Harris, so their fears weren’t unreasonable. (Fortunately for the Soul Stirrers—and the rest of us—Cooke proved to be an apt student of Harris’ singing technique.) Here’s Harris singing lead on the Soul Stirrer’s beautiful rendition of the old spiritual, “I’m Willing To Run”.

Use me, Lord, in thy service,
Draw me nearer, Lord, everyday;
If I falter while I’m trying,
Don’t be angry, just let me stay;
I’m willing to run all the way.
