Morning Song – Night Train

July 1, 2017

Most people covering Jimmy Forrest’s classic “Night Train” followed James Brown’s lead (not a bad idea, musically speaking), sped it up and made it louder.

Maynard Ferguson slowed it down, made it softer, then louder, then faster, then slow again, threw in flutes, piccolos, electric guitar, clarinets, French horns and a tuba…along with the basic instrumentation of his hard swinging big band.

So yes, it more than meets the standards of this little blog’s First Rule Of Cover Songs*; and we hope you enjoy it as much as we have over the years.

*You’ve got bring something new to it.
