Morning Song – Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)

June 30, 2017

One of the audience highlights of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton comes in the scene set on the eve of the Battle of Yorktown when the Marquis de Lafayette (France) and Alexander Hamilton (Nevis), anticipating the Americans’ decisive victory, dap each other up and say, “Immigrants: we get the job done“.

From that one line, MCs K’naan (Somali-Canadian), Snow tha Product (Mexican-American), Riz MC (British-Pakistani) and Residente (Puerto Rican) spin conscious hip-hop gold with “Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)” on The Hamilton Mixtape; while director Tomás Whitmore’s video is the best 5 minute movie you’ll see this year (and better than most 2 hour movies). Check it out.

It’s America’s ghostwriters; the credit’s only borrowed….
