Morning Song – I’m Still In Love With You

June 16, 2017

The lyrics for “I’m Still In Love With You” reveal a narrator so inarticulate that either of two mutually incompatible interpretations is completely possible:

  1. he’s talking with a woman he had a long romantic relationship with; she broke it off, but agreed to meet with him one last time and he’s trying to win her back; or,
  2. they’re still together after all these years, and his love for her is still so powerful that it overwhelms him “when I look in your eyes”.

It doesn’t really matter. This is Al Green at the height of his awe-inspiring powers (paired with producer Willie Mitchell at the height of his). God only knows how many babies were born in the 1970s nine months (or so) after this record spun on the turntable late at night in a dimly lit room.
