Morning Song – Undecided

June 3, 2017

Ella Fitzgerald, fronting Chick Webb’s orchestra, had a hit with the swing standard “Undecided” when she was 22 years old.

For what would have been Ella’s 100th birthday, violinist Regina Carter has just released a tribute album, Ella: Accentuate The Positive. Displaying the virtuosity and creativity that has made Carter a favorite among devotees of this little blog’s First Rule Of Cover Songs*, she slows “Undecided” down to a steamy, bluesy groove and a de facto duet with high school friend and vocalist extraordinaire Carla Cook.

*You’ve got to bring something new to it.
