Morning Song – Just You ‘N’ Me

May 31, 2017

In the late 1960s and early 1970s “jazz-rock” emerged as a subgenre of music from jazz musicians (e.g., Miles Davis) exploring what it meant to play in a band with electrified instruments and rock musicians stretching out and exploring the complexity, improvisation and creativity of jazz.

The band Chicago at times seemed to have its own subgenre of “rock-jazz”, anchored by their terrific horn section and virtuoso rhythm section (listen to them—starting at about 2:16—underneath Walter Parazaider’s soprano sax solo). They could take a simple love/apology-for-the-fight-we-just-had song and add layers of meaning and emotion and pleasure you didn’t know were there.

You are my love in my life;
You are my inspiration…
Baby you’re everything I’ve ever dreamed of….
