Morning Song – Soul Groove

April 10, 2017

Maybe, just maybe, you click the embedded video and listen to Earl Van Dyke & the Funk Brothers’ slinky, infectious, organ-percussion-and-sax driven instrumental,  “Soul Groove”.

If you do, chances are you’ll like it. You may even wonder what Motown was doing in 1964 that they didn’t release “Soul Groove” until 50 years later.

Then you realize that’s the year Motown released:

  • The Supremes: “Where Did Our Love Go?”, “Come See About Me”, “Baby Love”.
  • Martha & The Vandellas: “Dancing In The Street”.
  • Mary Wells: “My Guy”.
  • Marvin Gaye: “You’re A Wonderful One”, “Baby Don’t Do It”, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)”.
  • The Four Tops: “Baby I Need Your Loving”.
  • The Temptations: “The Way You Do The Things You Do”, “My Girl”.
  • Shorty Long: “Devil With The Blue Dress On”.
  • The Marvelettes: “Too Many Fish In The Sea”.

among others.

It’s still a pretty good way to start the week.
