Morning Song – Cette Année Là

March 16, 2017

Outsourcing to a Francophone correspondent for some context for M. Pokora’s cover* of Claude Francois’ cover of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons‘ “December 1963 (Oh What A Night!)”:

Pokora “…rose to fame in a boy band that had one big album, then went solo and has since released 7 albums, all topping the French charts, won season 1 of “Danse avec les stars”, is now a judge on The Voice (the French version), has been French male artist of the year 6 times at the NRJ awards. He did a whole album of Claude François covers last year. François basically made his career off French versions of British and American hits; “je chantais belle belle belle” is a reference to his first big hit, a version of the Everly Brothers’ “Made to Love”, and “ma chanson disait marche tout droit” references his version of “Walk Right In”.

*It’s kind of like if Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake had a baby…but, you know, in Paris.
