Morning Song – The Revolution Starts Now
Steve Earle’s led a tumultuous and at times, debilitating life. I think it shows in the title track to his 2004 album.
The revolution in “The Revolution Starts Now” may be grand and glorious, but it’s not an abstraction. It’s grounded in the particular: the streets and backyards and skyscapes of the narrator’s hometown, and the concrete, even humble daily actions of its people: “Where you work and where you play, where you lay your money down, what you do and what you say“.
It’s a revolution you could imagine happening around you. Why, it might even be a revolution you could imagine being part of.
