Morning Song – Morning
A heartbeat is a quiet thing, easy not to notice, yet essential to the whole project of living.
The thrumming bassline under confessional indie-folk singer-songwriter Paola Bennet’s “Morning” is like that: you hardly notice it, until it stops right at the emotional peak of the song…and then starts again (at 3:16).
Making it through times of despair and disillusionment, when everything you thought you knew about the world comes crashing down around you (what St. John of the Cross called the “dark night of the soul“) can require the kind of fragile** and bedrock-deep faith Bennet sings of: “If morning will rise, then I will get there“.

**Fragile because in the dark of night, the sun’s rising can seem a less-than-even chance.
