Morning Song – Thank You For Being A Friend

November 22, 2016

(One in a series of songs for this Thanksgiving week.)

Andrew Gold’s “Thank You For Being A Friend” is, in every respect—the lyrics, the melody, the chords, the lead vocal, the harmonies, the arrangement, its 1970s LA soft-rockishness—almost (almost?) embarrassingly earnest.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

In fact, true friendship can do that to you.

And when we both get older,
With walking canes and hair of gray;
Have no fear even though it’s hard to hear,
I will stand real close and say:

Thank you for being a friend.
