Morning Song – Me Gustas Tu

September 2, 2016

(One in a series of posts inspired by President Obama’s 2016 Spotify Summer Playlist.)

What music critic Josh Tyrangiel wrote nearly a decade ago of Manu Chao’s 2007 hit, “Me Llaman Calle” (“They Call Me Street”) holds true for Chao’s “Me Gustas Tu” (“I Like You”):

“With its easy melody and universal rhythm…(it) walks proudly in the shadow of Bob Marley, the last guy who made world music this disarmingly simple.”

(Just don’t expect Chao to be impressed that “Me Gustas Tu” made it to President Obama’s Spotify summer playlist. He’s been fighting imperialists and capitalists for far too long.)
