Morning Song – Raunchy
The argument against rock & roll in the 1950s was that it would lead to all sorts of immoral degeneracy (including that ultimate perversion—“race-mixing”), and to a general lowering of cultural norms.
Listening to Bill Justis & His Orchestra’s rendition of “Raunchy” (it went to #2 on the Billboard charts), you’d have to concede the “antis” had a point*. After all, if this was “Raunchy” in 1957, look what’s happened since.
*Although a 14 year old George Harrison’s ability to play the lead on this song reportedly got him into The Beatles; I think we can all agree that’s worth it.
