Morning Song – Work Was New

July 1, 2016

Kudos to the creators of SixDegreesOfVinceGill. Who knows how many thousands of hours have pleasurably disappeared down the sinkhole as people discovered, for example, that there are only 2 degrees of separation between Gill and Louis Armstrong?

But going through Vince still leaves you with 3 degrees of separation between Ralph Stanley and Bernie Worrell. We can better that by going through ubiquitous producer and session man T-Bone Burnett, who produced the Grammy-winning soundtrack for O Brother Where Art Thou? (on which Ralph Stanley sings “O Death”) and played guitar  (next to Bernie Worrell on organ) with 1980s NYC musical collective The Golden Palominos when they recorded the Dylanesque  “Work Was New”.
