Morning Song – Don’t Bring Me Down

June 24, 2016

By 1979 rock & roll was—or so it seems from this perspective—at something of a creative standstill. That’s the best explanation I have for songs like the Electric Light Orchestra’s “Don’t Bring Me Down”. (“Heartache Tonight” by the Eagles is another.)

Good hook, good riff, lyrics that don’t quite hold together, and yet somehow it’s a song that’s better than it should be.

Bonus: the chorus contains a mondegreen…which gives you a reason to learn what a mondegreen is.
