Morning Song – Everyday I Have The Blues

June 18, 2016

If memory serves, that’s Maynard Ferguson himself on a gorgeous valve trombone solo—just Maynard and the rhythm section for over a minute to open this swinging arrangement of “Everyday I Have The Blues”.

There’s also one of Maynard’s patented screaming-high trumpet solos at the end, but what makes this cut is the interplay between and among his big band’s sections (trumpets, trombones, reeds, rhythm). It’s full, robust, tight and playful.

Enjoy.

Memory serves. That’s definitely Maynard on the valve trombone. I’d know that mid-solo-note-held-for-11-beats anywhere!
