Morning Song – Fleetwood Stroll

March 21, 2016

Twenty years ago, Jimmy McGriff celebrated turning 60 by doing the kind of thing only older musicians can do.  He returned to his old record label (Milestone), got his old band back together (saxophonist and composer David “Fathead” Newman, blues sideman Mel Brown on guitar and the prolific Bernard Purdie on drums, with hard bop saxophonist Red Holloway filling in for the late Rusty Bryant), went into the studio for a day and came out with an album (The Dream Team).

No muss, no fuss, just great grooves like the easy flowing, laid-back boogaloo strut of “Fleetwood Stroll”.

It’s Monday morning; now that spring has arrived we’ve got the snowiest day of the month in this little corner of the world.  What’s happening where you are?
