Morning Song – Good Lava

March 5, 2016

For those of you excited about the release of jazz bassist-composer-singer-bandleader Esperanza Spalding’s new album, Emily’s D+Evolution,because you fell in love with her back in 2011 when she was the Grammy’s surprise Best New Artist and her Chamber Music Society received rave reviews from outlets like NPR because it “exudes a level of sophisticated intimacy, as if best experienced with a small gathering in a quiet, wood-paneled room“, just be aware Spalding’s new hard-rocking psychedelic power trio bears roughly the same relation to the music of Chamber Music Society as the genre-smashing jazz-funk-rock of Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters did to his coolly classical Empyrean Isles.

In fact, in her newest NPR interview, Spalding says the short-lived, hugely influential classic rock band Cream”feels very like a close inspiration” for songs like her new single, “Good Lava”.

We all know you wanna see this pretty girl flow;
Good lava, good lava….

Consider yourselves fairly warned.  Then turn it up to 11, and enjoy.
