Morning Song – To Sir With Love

November 6, 2015

Theme song to the Sidney Poitier movie and Billboard’s Hot 100 #1 single for 1967, “To Sir With Love” is an oddly endearing blend of show tune and gospel music, covered here to to great effect by the oddly endearing couple (long-time friends, former lovers, lead singers for quirky ’80s alt-rock college-town bands) of Natalie Merchant and Michael Stipe.

If you wanted the moon, I would try to make a start,
But I would rather you let me give my heart.
