Morning Song – Deliver Me

October 18, 2015

Some conversion songs are sung after the fact.  There’s a certitude and peace about the story they tell that comes from the narrator reflecting back on the experience.  (“Amazing Grace” is probably the best known example of this type.)

That’s not what Robert Randolph’s “Deliver Me” is about.  “Deliver Me” is in the midst of the struggle.  It’s the song of a man in deep and stormy waters…and he’s about to go down for the third time.

Should I, should I get on my knees and pray?
I know I, I just can’t make it through another day;
I got to, I got to, I got to get away.

Deliver me (Before I get down).
