Morning Song – Everything I Do Gonh Be Funky (From Now On)

Like many songwriters, the great Allen Toussaint always has his ears open for a good lyric.  So, as the story goes, back in 1969 Toussaint was in Atlanta producing an album with Lee Dorsey and New Orleans’ premiere session band, The Meters.  After listening to the new sounds they were cooking up, during a break in the session, the local sound engineer said admiringly, “Everything I do gonh be funky from now on.

Hmmm.  Why yes, I do believe that’ll sing.

I have to be myself and do my thing,
A little soul can’t do no harm;
Everything I do gonh be funky from now on….
