Morning Song – Through It All

August 23, 2015

Andrae Crouch is one of the great bridging figures in late 20th century American music—bridging the divide between black and white gospel music, between the “Jesus movement” of the 1970s and the institutional church, between gospel and pop music.

That didn’t always make church folks happy with Crouch, but the fact that he kept writing (and singing) songs like “Through It All”—deeply rooted in the experience of despair and faith and God’s redeeming power—kept him in the church…and allowed him to be an evangelist in the world.

I thank God for the mountains,
and I thank Him for the valleys,
I thank Him for the storms He brought me through.
For if I’d never had a problem,
I wouldn’t know God could solve them,
I’d never know what faith in God could do.
