Morning Song – Where Did Our Love Go?

August 9, 2013

By the summer of 1964, the closest The Supremes had come to a hit in their three years with Motown was when they sang back-up on Marvin Gaye’s “Can I Get A Witness” (which went to #22 on the Billboard pop charts in 1963).  That all changed with “Where Did Our Love Go?”, the first of five consecutive #1 singles for The Supremes, all of them written and produced by Holland-Dozier-Holland.  It’s further proof that how people feel about each other in the recording studio can bear little relation to what ends up on the recording.

  1. They had the best studio band in R&B “The Funk Brothers” that gave everything that Motown sound.
