Morning Song – You Got It
It’s hard to think of a man in American popular music over the past few decades who expressed the vulnerable, bewildered amazement of a man finding himself in love with a beautiful, talented woman as gorgeously and openly as did Roy Orbison.
Written by Orbison friends, bandmates and admirers Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, “You Got It” became a hit after Orbison’s untimely death in 1988. (This video contains footage from his only live performance of the song.)
With lush, soaring strings, full, thundering tympani, and Texas-tinged guitar lines, “You Got It” is built around Orbison’s unique, operatic voice: reaching up, ever higher, pleading, yearning, offering “anything at all” to the one he loves.
You know, just like true romantic love feels like.
